Marina Cohen was born in 1967 and grew up in Scarborough Ontario, Canada.

In Elementary school, Marina’s favourite author was Edgar Allen Poe.  She just loved The Tell-Tale Heart, and aspired to write similar stories.  Though her favourite genre was horror, she also adored fantasy, reading books like The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.  She watched Star Wars, Dragonslayer and Krull over and over until she practically memorized the dialogue.  She is a huge Harry Potter fan.

Marina has had several jobs including Air Canada Sales agent at both Pearson International Airport, Toronto and Lohausen Airport, Düsseldorf, Germany, where she lived for two years.  She has been teaching for the York Region District School Board since 1995.

The idea for Shadow of the Moon, the story of boy/girl twins, brewed inside her for more than a decade before she began to write it.  She completed the first draft of the manuscript in 2002, two years prior to giving birth to her own boy/girl twins.  She often says, “I knew there was a reason this story was so close to my heart.”
